Who Runs Motor Before Each Trip
I was curious who gives their motor a start at home before leaving on each trip.
This comes about, because of number of boats that dont start at ramps.

Never! Honestly if I felt the need to do a start at home before heading to the ramp then my time would be much better spent staying home to find out why.

Nup I don't start it cause I know she's good.
But I do charge the battery the day before, then hit it again in the morning to see how long it takes before she's fully charged again. (only cause the battery is 7 years old now, and can't last forever)

Yep its part of my routine, even with a new motor its probably habit these days.
Also I would hate to get the boat in the water and find I had a problem and then have to pull it out again and disappoint the family or mates.

Re: Who Runs Motor Before Each Trip
I often do, but not always. If it has been a while since it was run, then I do it as a matter of course, to make sure it will start. I think it's just a smart thing to do.

Never.
I use mine reasonable frequently so I never worry about its not starting unless I flood it when I squeeze the primer too many times. (4 stroke carby model Merc)
I have seen some people start their motor dry on land before launching. I would be worried about damaging the water pump rubber impeller to do that.

Re: Who Runs Motor Before Each Trip
The Yammy 115 (93 model) always starts first time every time. I service it at the recommended intervals and she is always good to go. As such I never bother starting her at home. I just stick on the Garmin and see what the voltage of the batteries are (which are usually charged at home) and away we go.

Re: Who Runs Motor Before Each Trip
yep, everytime. Just a routine, if I dont start it at home because of the early hour I start it before I back down the ramp

Re: Who Runs Motor Before Each Trip
If I'm heading out to the reef,I always kick it over the night before and quickly again before pushing off at the ramp.
Just habit I guess (and because I've had a collapsed battery at the ramp before)
