in the long run mate, take the motor off and either get it sand blasterd or use stripper/sand it. which ever road you take it will far supiror to leavin the motor on.

Re: Stripping paint off tinnie
Ive got some SERIOUS stripper I use for taking sealer off. It will take paint off easily. Its a messy big job but worth it as your tinny wont have big sanding marks that will have to boat taken out later in the process. If you decide to go that way I'll give you the name and cost of it

Re: Stripping paint off tinnie
just make sure the stripper you use is kind to Alloy, the one they use on Planes is the best, some use a very caustic base and it will eat the Alloy quite severely, sand blasting is not too expensive, but you must be very careful with the place you choose, make sure they have experience with Boats, I have seen some real bad damage done by "heavy duty" sand blasting companies, so bad so as to have actually made holes in the Boat, and some that have heated it to an extent as to distort it badly!

Re: Stripping paint off tinnie
I have just finished removing the paint from my 4.5m centre console (sides, stern, bow and gunales) yesterday. It worked like a treat and a lot quicker than I thought too. Here's how I did it,
Stuff I used,
1. I hired a petrol high pressure cleaner (guerni), about 3000psi I think.
2. I bought a well known brand of automotive paint stripper, I contacted a few companies by there websites and this brand were the only ones that said it was safe for aluminium. I am happy to recommend the brand just not sure i am supposed to do it here, just pm me.
3. Some plastic drop sheets for masking up and covering the winch post, motor, etc.
4. Bottle of metho, neutralises the stripper.
5. Some disposable brushes and some plastic containers for the stripper (I used the kids sand castle buckets - perfect size and no i am not very popular at the moment).
Prep work,
1. removed fittings (rod holders, etc) from gunales and stern.
2. taped up the holes (used normal painters masking tape).
3. not sure what its called but its a plastic bag with draw string for the motor. Painters use them for furniture and shrubs. I used this to cover/protect the motor - worked perfectly.
4. Masked with plastic sheets around the area where the motor is bolted onto the stern.
The work,
1. Pick an area, I started with about a half one side of the boat, brush on the stipper pretty thickly. It started working immediately, I could hear it cracking, and popping, weird I know.
2. After about 10 to 15mins, the paint was coming off and you could see bare aluminium, so I lit up high pressure cleaner and cleaned down the area. I was able to get about 90% off down to clean alumimium first run.
3. Repeated the process to clean up the area and then move onto the next area.
4. Wet a rag with metho and wiped down the entire boat, not sure I needed to do this as the high pressure cleaner really blew everything away.
The whole process took about 3 hours, I couldn't believe how easy and fast it was. I think the combination of the stripper along with the high pressure cleaner was the reason for this.
Hope this has been useful.
