evvinrude 50 hp
I have a 50 hp 80 model vro that I want to sell soon. It has the Trim and Tilt removed because it wasn't working but I still have it. The motor starts ok and runs on idle after a minute or so but has a small surge at idle and at high revs. It pumps water great out of the tell tale and has heaps of get up and go; its on a 15' nautiglass half cabin. I did a compression test and the two pots are 145psi. It sat for 2 years so I am assuming that the jets might be a bit gummed up. It had a new carby kit 2 years ago but has sat since then. Any body know what it would cost to get a new carby kit fitted and new impeller done the same time? I am also thinking of selling it and getting a brand new motor. I have been thinking of a 4stroke Yamaha 60.even though the 50 is quite surprisingly powerful. Any ideas what this motor would be worth? Thanks for any replies

Re: evvinrude 50 hp
Evinrude didnt get VRO until around 1984'ish. So the motor might be a fraction newer than you think. If you post up the model number we can determine the year. It will be a number with 50 followed by some letters most likely.
I cant help with the value, sorry.

Hi Rod; I have used the "introduces" code and it is 80", the motor has the oil spout below the fuel inputs. Thanks for your reply.

Hi sharky, something is not original with that engine then. It may have had a replacement swivel bracket form an older model.
Oil injection began in 1984 with the VRO1 (no warning system fitted). A 1980 model would be year code "CS" and there was no oil injection around then, guaranteed.
Cheers

Re: evvinrude 50 hp
Here in Melb, if it was clean and tidy, with power trim I would get probably $2500-3000 for it fitted and supplying a warranty.
Privately probably a bit less. Not quite sure about up north coz all the stuff up there is a lot more worn out and therefore cheaper.
Check the trading post or ring a few dealers that have older motors and see what they have for sale and for what bucks.
The serial number under the model number on the swivel bracket will match the serial disc in a welch plug on the engine if the engine was original.
Its most likely had an older swivel bracket fitted for some reason. Perhaps it had power trim issues or didn't have it and they had it fitted from an older model. What is the model number? Does it have power trim?
Cheers

Thanks BM I will check it out again. The motor looks like it has had a newish Remote fitted to it. Was going to put it on Ebay and sell it off. Want the person who buys it to help with removal.

Re: evvinrude 50 hp
Do yourself a favour, avoid all the ebay dickheads and advertise it through the trading post.
On ebay you'll get $500 for it. Ebay is a buyers market, a place to pay next to nothing for something worth a lot more. Tradingpost will get you a decent price. Unless your happy with $500???

Checked the welsh plug in the casing and now realise it is a 12/89 model.
