Thread: GC strong Wind, Fish off-bite?

Thumbs up GC strong Wind, Fish off-bite?

    Hi, folks,

Considering the strong wind in this weekend, say over 20 knots. Some told me that fish become quiet under strong wind. Is it true based on your experiences, especially on Gold Coast?

Thank you for your contribution in advance.

    Cheers,
    Carl

Re: GC strong Wind, Fish off-bite?

As Noelm put in another thread "it doesn't get windy under water". If affects casting etc etc but catches are still good. I have caught some of my best bream on the GC in a 25kt wind - one went over 40cm! You just have to fish the conditions as best you can.

wind and wave action on a wind blown shoreline can be your friend as it stirs up a lot of feed, the problems lies in that the water will be rough or if fishing landbased you are casting into the wind

Its not windy under water.....so the fish will still bite.....apparently u dont catch much fish if it is a Westerly wind....if u go out it is still goin to be uncomfortable and cold....

    cheers alex

Not that this helps you at all but I went fishing off the beach into a howling gale at Stockton early this year (about the 4th time I had been fishing up here and roughly 6th time in my 37 years) and there was at least twice the line never made it into the water. Contributed to by both a poor casting technique and of course the wind. Still landed 2 Salmon and about 4 Tailor though so once the bait was in the drink it was effective.

Was at the pin earlier today in the westerly's and caught absolutely jack. Mind you, yesterday when the wind was just as strong and in the same direction, we got 4 good sized bream in a matter of 2 hours, and there were definitely more on the chew.

So it turns out the only difference between today and yesterday was, there was a banana in the boat today.

didnt seem to mak a difference today with over 20 legal bream being caught up the nerang.
i agree with blaze in that the wind and wave action on the shorline can attract the fish.
