Penn 550ss bail arm spring
Help!!!!!
I've owned my beloved Penn Spinfisher 550ss for 20 years.
It has made thousands of casts, caught hundreds of fish and been the best reel I've ever owned.
6 weeks ago, spinning off the rocks, she broke the bail arm spring. I've had it in the shop awaiting a new spring on order but where is it??
Has anyone out there got an old defunkt spare part 550ss that they could salvage the bail arm spring out of?
I will happily pay for the part and postage. I'm getting desperate. Thanks guys.
Cheers, Jeff.

Jarvis Walker/Penn are not the best when it comes to spare parts delivery at speed, try another shop to see what they can do, a 550 bail spring should be a standard stock/shelf item.

is there a good tackle store close by that you frequent? parts are not usually any real problem (although as mentioned they are not a great company in Aus) a good shop may have something in stock, but if you have to wait I guess not a lot can be done.

Yeah, I just spoke to my man, he said the same as you guys. Penn are sh!t to deal with. Notoriously slow.
This is the reason he doesn't stock Penn reels.
Thanks guys.

not too sure about them being THAT slow, i got a spare spool within 1 week, but they are not super fast, and to my way of thinking, any tackle store that does not sell Penn gear is losing a big share of the business.

hmm.. They don't stock the old spinfisher parts anymore. I got quoted $100 for the main gear that gave way.
just doing the maths. $100 to fix old or $179 for new.
another 79 and i have a spare reel for parts???????

Re: Penn 550ss bail arm spring
Well, well.
Thought I'd drop in to tackle store and talk about my bail arm spring.
Turns out, the left arm wasn't talking to the right arm and Bingo! the spring was actually here.
It had to come from WA and in the meantime, the reel mechanic had manufactured a spring by hand as he thought the country was out of stock! Whew!
Cut a long story short, the original Penn spring came in and I am now happy!
Is Penn/Jarvis Walker spare parts outlet based in WA I wonder?
Cheers.

They come from SA - Anglers Central Service Centre. Friendly to deal with and prompt delivery so far. Not sure if they are on the web.
