    Downstream from Mt Crosby Weir

Has anyone fished downstream from Mt Crosby Weir recently? I know it's a no-fishing zone for 400 metres downstream, but is there anything worth chasing further down?

By the number of fish just tooling around in the protected zone there'd hopefully be something around lower down.

I was also at Colleges Crossing this morning and the whole place looked to be choked in weed. Is it the same all the way up to the weir?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Cheers

I had fish there last weekend (between the weir and the old weir, outside of the no fishing zone), and not alot of anything was happening.

At pretty much the very end of the no fishing zone the river bed tends to get very rocky and quite annoying to fish in, I'ld suggest heading down past the old weir (there's another 50m of no fishing at the old weir) and have a look at what's there.

If you park on the western side of the weir and follow the track down along the river, you'll eventually hit the old weir .. but it's a bit of a hike :|

    colleges is always weedy

just beaware that you're in the middle of the bush too, last weekend there was a fire raging at the old weir which the fire brigade didnt care too much for since there wasnt a road I could send the fire trucks ........ bloody 000 operators

Guys, what sort of lures were you using, or did you use bait of some sort?

There are occasionally a few bass below the old weir, but if you're using bait, you'll most likely only hook up to a few cat fish and eels lately.

In the past we've got a few nice lungfish (protected, make sure they're returned unharmed) and some tarpon like fish ... possibly .. tarpon

    great fun on light gear.

If you've got some kids who don't really care what they catch, there's always a million and one gar and mullet down at colleges. Saves having to make them hike around the bush for a few fish, plus they can have a swim around

You might also want to try throwing a line in down at Kookaburra park (past colleges heading towards the weir, first right after the little bridge at colleges (might be called colleges rd ???), follow that until the golf course and it's pretty much right in front of you). We've got a few nice bream down that way, and I hear there is occasionally some flathead around (there's always bloody catfish around).

There's no weed, and no hike involved to get to it, though it can get a tad muddy at times.

Brissybass, is there an alternative way to get down to the old weir ? We've been parking at the weir and walking down the gravel track on the western side of the bank. It's a long walk when you're the one forced to carry all the bloody gear :|

Only way to get down there is to walk. Unless you've got a key for the gate of course. # #
You can also appraoch Allawah Scout camp if you can access the river bank via their land.
Other than that its a case of walking upstream from Colleges Crossing.

    Cheers,

    Fitzy..
