Hows samsonvale
Thinking of going to lake samsonvale next weekend. We will be on land.Any locations and techniques would be of great help.Have been to the picnic grounds past the pumping station with no luck.We will be using lures and also some worms.

Re: Hows samsonvale
I drove around the Eastern shore yesterday evening and there was only one car in the carpark at Forgan Cove and nobody fishing at Bullocky Rest (it was close to the 6.00pm "gates locked" time though). Half a dozen people were fishing between the Bullocky Rest gate and the SEQWater Workshop but nothing came in during the 5 minutes I watched them. I'd reckon there'd be a fair bit of weed around the banks at the moment which might make fishing difficult.
Within the boating permit area yesterday 4 boats (each with one or two blokes aboard) caught 15 Bass, 4 Yellas, 10 Silvers, 5 Eel-Tailed Catfish and 1 Tilapia. I know some of the Bass were caught on live Shrimp (local Shrimp are caught in traps overnight as they cannot be translocated) and assume most of the others would also have fallen to bait. A couple of blokes seem to have the Silvers worked out at the moment but for most people they are harder to catch. A few Redclaw are still coming in but they are not as thick as they were before Christmas.
From the shore reserves, Snub-nosed Gar would be worth a try using small flies or a perhaps a float and small pieces of prawn on a small hook and this method might get around the weed problem and even take a Spangled Perch or Tilapia (let's destroy as many of these noxious buggers as possible).

Wisherman,
Am taking the new unit out onto Samsonvale on Monday for some trolling in the fishing area. #Got some new lures to take for a run as well. #Will give you a report on Tuesday.
Good luch this week end.

Wisherman,
Meant to also say that another Samsonvale fisho mentioned yesterday that the gar seem to be moving to the eastern end of the dam. So try the light gear.

Re: Hows samsonvale
From the Forgan cove carpark I walked through the middle track then left at the fork and had a wander around the shore this evening.
I did see quite a few Gar in the calm water in the inlets and the weed wasn't too bad in this area.

Re: Hows samsonvale
Wisherman,
Sorry but didn't end up heading out on to Samsonvale on Monday. Weather didn't look the best (which later proved right). I ended up heading down to Kedron Brook (near Nudgee Beach) and went for a paddle. Trolled upstream on the southern side for a while (without any luck) then cast a DK Lure around the mangroves and landed a 50cm lizard on the 4th cast. Then the thunder started and I quickly headed back to the safety of the boat ramp.
Doesn't look like I'll get to Samsonvale for a few weeks now.
Hope you caught a feed of gar?
Cheers,
Gigantor
