Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
Is night fishing on Lake Monduran allowed or has it been banned.
The latest information received from Caravan Park state that fishing only allowed on the dam during daylight hours.
Could any on of locals confirm this.
Will be up there again for a fornight in early October up to Comp time.
Will this change the comp.
Is this a rule for caravan park residents only or does it effect all users of the Lake?

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
Don't think it will afect the comp there. Never fished the comp but i think the rules state no night fishing for safety reasons.

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
There has never been any night fishing allowed on the fishing comp weekend as Les said for safety reasons. As far as any other time it is my understanding that it is illegal to boat after dark on any lake controled by Sunwater but never has been policed.

Won't stop me as it is the best time to fish in summer.

Was under the impression that the ban by Sunwater was on guides only.
Will check it out and put out a post.

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
Sunwater is in no position to proclaim any time limit. It controls the dam wall operations. Sunwater are NOT a government body. It is a corporation. Its like the local plumber trying to tell us we cant use the loo at night...
There's only 2 places this could be done:
- The regional Harbour Master Office, or
- Maritime Division of Transport Department.
THe 2nd would need legislation to be re-written I think.
The first??? Can one of the Bundy locals call Darryl D at the Harbour Masters Office on the river & find out what he's got to say about it?
I find it highly unlikely there is a ban on night fishing or boating there. I think it is a rule of the comp that's been interpretted as being a rule for the lake.

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
Realise all of the above.
But the Handout from the Lake Monduran Holiday Park
Under following information and guidelines are provided to ensure visitors to our park have an enjoyable stay.
Quote para 11
11. Dam Security
For the safety of all guests boating on the dam after dark is not permitted. All water activities are restricted to day light hours only.
Unquote.
Might be a rule from Management of Park. But do you then restrict people going anywhere else during the night. Ie to the pub in Gin Gin on the grounds that they might disturb other patrons upon their return. I don't think so.
The rule seems to be a bit selective and just wanted to know what the thinking of other users of the dam is.
Always good to find out what is going on before we find our hands bound again.

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
Contacted the Park Management who stated it was a Kolan Shire Council ruling so I'm waiting for a call back from them to see what the actual ruling is.
Spoke to Transport and DPI and they both say it's not in their jurisdiction, but the Council does have management rights.
I guess my query is even if they do have management rights, how can they stop you from going on a public river?!? Does that mean they can stop us downstream of the dam wall any where the Kolan River runs through the Kolan Shire?? I don't think so. And how far upstream does the ban apply
?

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
Had a number of phone calls about this today and the basics are......
Every dam that is controlled by Sunwater has the same ruling in place.
It has never been strictly enforced (bloody near impossible to do)
The Company that has the wet & dry concessions, on this or any other controlled dam, have to have it written that there will be no fishing after dark etc. and make every effort to comply with the requirements of the conditions imposed by Sunwater.
This ruling is in place for obvious litigation reasons due to lack of navigation aids etc.,etc, but we've got to hope that this is never policed absolutely as apparently they do have the right to exercise this control.
Hope this helps.

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
I supose the only places that can enforce it are those where the access to the boat ramps can be locked. Otherwise how are they going to enforce it?
Also dont know why it would be anymore dangerous than any part of the coast without Nav Aids. I think whoever said it was red tape gone wild is correct!

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
I agree with gone_ phishin it all depends on who as the the control of the wet conncession over the dam. When I managed Lake Monduran we went through all this about boating after dark and at that time sunwater did control the wet conncession and the rule was no boating after dark. The Kolan Shire Council had the dry conncession and were in the process of taking over the wet concession so they would control what commerial ventures would be allowed on the Lake. If the council has now got the wet connession I can't see now the new company up at Monduran has the right or power to stop you fishing at night.
The company might be trying to stop people staying up the dam overnight and not paying camping fees as I know the council wanted us to charge people camping fees if there car and trailer were left at the ramp overnight and they were up the Lake.
Thank god I out of it and back in the real world.

I'm not saying that is the case, but if it ever happens to turn out like that, I can guarantee they'll cop a flogging in the press over it.Originally Posted by Foxie

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
Thanks a lot,
Guess we just give a go and see what happens when we go up.
It is a great lake with the best potential of all the dams that we have fished so far.
Only have tried six of the Barra Impoundments so far and Monduran would be my favourite.
See you on the dam

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
I had spoken to a local Council member for Kolan today about the night fishing, I was told that there will be more signage placed around the dam soon ,on no Boating after Dark , BUT policing of it would be next to impossible.
The reason for this is from past tragedies on the dam. Obviously a case of who is liable for an unfortunate incident even though these tragedies did happen during daylight hours.

Re: Monduran Dam night fishing banned?
Are any of these controlling bodies in a position to impose a fine on offenders? Bit like the Brisbane Council sayin' ya can't drive on their roads at night 'cause ya might have a prang.
