One Lure C&R
Hi All
Just wondering if there are any One Lure Catch and Release comps out there. More an M&G than comp (NO to little prizes).
I've been to a couple in New South, so I'd like to here about any up North in Q/land.
If you're not up on whats involved it's fairly basic.
One Lure Style only, you can have as many of the exact same lure i.e. brand clolour shape style. If you loose one then thats all you can replace it with.
All fish are measured and witnessed by other competitors in other boat/s and then released, they must swim away in a healthy state to be counted for points.
Well anything like this out there.
Regards Rob.

Re: One Lure C&R
As SEQTAR we ran a few of these comps, we kept them very low profile. Nobody else in Qld has taken the idea and run with it. It would be good if somebody did start it back up, they are most enjoyable comps.
Cheers

Re: One Lure C&R
Certainly be a relief from needing a pack mule to carry all the lures.

Re: One Lure C&R
Hi again people,
There are a few coming up, but they're in Northern NSW, and as mentioned by Murray, the organisers like to keep them low profile,so as not to attract any d/heads interested in big prizes. Last one I went in the major prize, hand your winning Lure over for it to be mounted on a Board with your name on a plaque. Good idea I think.
Any way one on at Copeton Dam Inverell 18/19 November
Pindarri Dam Ashford Feb 07, not sure of dates around 13/14
Glenlyon Dam Tenterfield?, around 13/14 March 07.
Great mob of blokes and gals, there for a good time and a fish.
We're trying to organise one down here at Grafton for April, waiting on Council to come up with camping area on the Clarence, best river in NSW and no Camping areas on the flamen river!
Well by for now
Rob

Hi Rob
Sounds like you have a great idea I have thought about fishing competions but am put off with all the drama attached. Something lowkey would be perfect for anyone like me and attached to a M&G would I am sure attract a lot of interest here. If you where talking dams in SE Qld Somerset would be perfect for that type of thing with on its day good fishing and great camping. Mind you if we don`t get rain soon the only thing we could have there is mud racers #

Hi John,
Too easy to organise I think?
Just through up a date & place for an M&G with a few rules
1.One Lure only (max 5 of exact lure)
2. Loose a lure can only be replaced with exact Lure
3. All fish C&R, measured & I.D. by other fisherperson NOT fishing with you.
4. To count for points, fish released must be in healthy condition and be able to swim away in again a healthy state.
5. Fishing times 7.a.m to 11.am. Saturday 2p.m. to 6p.m. Saturday then a quiet ale or twenty. with recovery comp 7a.m. to 11a.m. Sunday then home.
6. NO Prizes, just turn up for the M&G and fun of competetion.
Perhaps a shield could be made up/donated so as the winer can give up their prized Lure and have it mounted.
Prizes and such things mean money and most of us have none.
One Lures I'm attending over next few months are about $2.00/head to enter (goes to Fishing Club Running the show, and cost of shield), other prizes if any are donated by local business and consist of maybe a deep cycle battery for the elec motor and maybe a T-shirt, and thats it. They just get together and have a great time
Just had a look at Dam storage and you right 31% not good, similar thing down here in New south.need rain and good rain at that.

Re: One Lure C&R
Hi
I to have fished a few One Lure comps at Copeton and Sommerset from memory there was a point system for each fish caught such as 30cm=15 points ,35cm= 16 points and so on then totaled up at the end of the each day so people know how many fish they need to catch to win the comp .Its an honesty sort of thing and everyone winners or loosers had a great time .I had won one of the one lure comps using one of Blitz Baggas lures. If you are able to invite some lure makers and they donate a few lure at the end of the comp have a free raffle of the donated lures.A good thing is to push for juniors to fish because they are the future of the fishing scene.Hope this can help you out a bit.

Unless we have rain in the near future I would be trying to run one of these comps at Awoonga, can you imagine? It's a long way for the southerners to travel though. The comps we have held were very social and the club made a small amount through raffles which were supported buy local lure makers Etc, procedes from this comp went to the fish stocking association to purchase more fingerlings for the impoundment. The shield we had was just donated buy the club members. Last I heard our sheild was in a hotel at Esk, it may be somewhere else now, I don't know. We used the sliding point scale based on length for the points. When it rains you should hold one at Somerset. This is a very social comp, with little prep and organisation.
Cheers

Re: One Lure C&R
Hi Murray,
Yeh all our dams the same down here, Awoonga's up Gladstone way is it
? As far as I concerned, I'd travel no problem, as I never been there before, and if all the type on Big Barra on this site is to be believed, and there's that much that I find it hard not too, then it would be great
![]()
. and I know of three at least, and I haven't asked as yet, from down here that would go up work permitting. (bloody work)
![]()
. Sounds as though this type of thing is run the same no matter what, points and all. Time frame for me at this stage would be around May next year as I booked up with Club outings and Family. Would need local imput to see if this a good time or not. As far as Shield concerned, if we get the numbers then we hit them up for a bob or two to cover costs and then charge a rate to, as said, maybe give a quid to the mob at awoonga to go towards stocking etc.
Any way it's in the works now so alls we need do is let this thread d it's work, and once wecome up with a date, put it on the M&G site.
Regards
