Bay prawns are everywhere up the passage at the moment. Thickest I've seen them in a dozen or so years.

To you regular prawn catching guys this question may seem laughable and along the lines of the ole' how long is a piece of string comment but how long does a 'run' of prawns like this last? The only reason why i ask is because i'm only back home in that part of the world one week every month and its still a couple of weeks till i'm home.

There in really good numbers on the sunshine coast no matter the river system, time of day ect. I avergae every cast about 10, but if the cast net had smaller holes i would be getting close to 20.

Plenty of prawnies today. Got a bucket yesterday, and one more today. Best thing was- only me and another boat out there. Wind blew that hard, it wasn't funny.

current speed, burly , how do you spot them, A thanks for any tips ! ! Cheers,

Hi mate, just drift as you need to use your engine in the boat in your avatar. Throw the net and let the line loose so you don't pull on the net and close.

Let it settle to the bottom you may need some extra string attached to ya net for deeper water and you will need to adjust the boat in current and wind. Then pull up the net.

Look on the sounder for patches.

Dep or shallow you just have to find where they are holding in your area.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: the prawns are on

    Hey Timbo Cheers for that,
are you saying , find the prawns on the sounder while drifting then use the engine to hold that position when there spotted ? If so this will be very fun as my wife cant even drive a shopping trolly we'll have to find a very quiet area.

Looks like our boats would be similar for prawning out of, etc
    Thanks again
