Duty free tackle in oz ?

Hi all,
Does anyone know a duty free tackle shop in oz? I'll be coming from France via Hong Kong and will be looking for the best opportunity to get a stella 10 000 fa. Does anyone have a tip to get it duty free ?

GT Man - Try Hong Kong but forget about Australia - u wont find duty free tackle in Australia. You can claim GST (goods and services tax) at the airport but the aussie government like to make it a big hassle for you so I am not sure if its worth it - Hong kong u can anything anywhere anytime - cheers

Hey mate if you are after a stella, i believe they are made in japan. A very helpful ausfish member "raefpud" would prob be able to get you onto one for a good price. He is located in japan and has helped quite a few other ausfish members, i am about to buy a Daiwa SW203L from him. Email him at fishingtools@gmail.com

There's NO duty on goods in Australia, only 10% GST

The reason why tackle (or anything else imported) is so expensive is the networks of middlemen with huge markups, not the taxes.

Are you saying that there is no customs duty on importing tackle to Australia?

There is no VAT in Oz, the simmilar tax is calles GST over there.

I do not know for sure but I would suspect that the system would operate the same way like in most parts of the world:

Goods coming in are subject to customs duties on the price paid and shipment costs.

GST (VAT) on the final retail price.

Last time I came thru an airport, they said 'any item under $1,000 was duty free'. Apart from a few exceptions like cigs and grog.
