I recently read an article to do with SP fishing & I was interested in a couple of pointers for reel specs for using gel spun line. For baitcasters, it's recommended to use an aluminium spool as the gel line will rip the cr*p out of the leading edge of lesser spool material. The second point was to make sure the roller on the bail arm is a bearing type, as the gel-line will wear this as well. That all made sense to me and then I got to thinking about overhead reels and whether similar would apply to the line guide? Would a line guide of metal or nylon etc be the order of the day? I am thinking metal would be obvious? Looking at my Quantum overhead reel the guide only really touches the line from side to side and doesn't have any weight placed on it from the line itself.
