Thread: Winter Whiting at Moreton

    Basserman,

Not sure what that could be with a pink strip along the side - closest I know of would be a golden lined whiting but the stripe is more golden/yellow than pink.

Here is a picture I found of a winter whiting.

    Cheers,

I have caught Winter Whiting in the lake at Newcastle. And, yes, I am absolutely sure of the identification.

    GES,
Thanks. I've been searching through whats left of the grey matter since Mark posted that picture yesterday. On second thought I get the feeling I may well have caught them before at Byron, but being undersized, just threw them back without a second look.
I will have to pay a bit closer attention next time.
    Cheers

I find a easy way to tell whiting apart is to also look at their nose slope. The summer or sand whiting have blue streaks along and sloping inward forehead where the winter or diver whiting have a rounded forehead.
Along with the other info posted, no probs telling them apart.
