Rainbow/ DI report...more monster whiting + tailor
hi guys, well we headed up for our club comp on thursday night and decided to kick off fishing just north of teewah. thursday night saw teewah full of snot weed and very few fish, managed some just leagal bream and that was all so before daybreak we traveled up to the northeren end of the beach to find two lovely formed strecthes of water.
after checking out the water and picking places to fish we pulled some worms and headed back to our chosen spots to target some big whiting, soon after they flowed steadily with plenty caught in the 300mm size range but was able to break our record for " monster whiting caught in one session " which now stands a 8. all 8 fish went between 550-650 grams with one nearly hitting the 700g mark.
night saw the drains fill with bream, tarwhine and big dart that were hitting anything most were caught by accident on tailor rods using 6/0's. Tailor were also on the chew, landed 9 fish in the 2 kg range and lost a monster estimated 5kg+ which bit through 60lb multi strand wire like a peice of cheese. after loseing that fish there was a lot of swearing but adrenaline took me through the rest of the night.
they weather was unreal and by monday the drains we were fishing on the friday and sat were turning into some prime big tailor haunts so i headed back down the beach from rainbow to have another crack. we were right on the money and landed two tailor which were about 1.5-2kg each on a single hook. As the night progressed we landed plenty of tailor in the 2-3 kg range while I also landed a monster which went 5kg on the dot and measured 98cm. was totally stoked after droping that big fish the night before.
next day saw more bream dart and whiting plus a flaty and a greedy stargazer that decided to eat two baits and took two hooks each in seperte sides of its mouth..
so was another awesome venture on the beaches with good fish and even better weather. just proves you dont have to pay all the money to go to fraser to catch big fish.
will post photo's this evening.

just got off the phone to my brother, he caught good tailor last night in the same drain, one went 4.2 KG and another 3.5kg.
our neighbour up at rainbow fished the next gutter along and picked up good tailor and a 13kg jewie as well. he is heading back down the beach for another session as we speak.
sa the netters working the beach pretty hard over the weekend too. they ran there nets up near the headland for a massive haul of tailor which i saw, most were in the 3-4 kg range.

Great set of whiting Drew.
Beating your monster whiting record must have been the good karma coming back at you for the good info you put up on the other whiting thread.
That water looks perfect. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
No way could I drive past it without chucking a line in; it may as well have a "Whiting Live Here" sign out on that drop off into the hole.
And then a 10+lber tailor. What a great weekend of fishing.
Must have been gobsmacked when you got the cut wire trace back the first time.
Great looking prime bit of fish.
Cheers
