    OB1, one word....wire

unless your using gangs ( which i dont like ) its nearly compulsary to use wire. i prefer the uncoated seven strand wire as it is flexible , strong and thinner then the nylon coated stuff. i prefer single hook rigs or rigs with a sliding keeper for tailor fishing.

try strip baits of tailor/ tuna/dart/mullet/bonito as opoossed to the dirty old pilly. you will cast further and more accurately with the smaller bait ( pilly acts like a sail, cutting distance ) and there is no need for a big bait when it comes down to hunting big tailor. not only that you tend to pick up bream/tarwhine and quality dart off the single hook to boot.

    Surf Sniper,

I've just read the whole thread and could possibly be one of the best reports off the beach I have ever read. Your whole set up shows experience, and pulling Tailor out of the surf like that...... I had to look twice, I thought you had your pictures mixed up, and the jewie was called a Tailor. That's awesome size!

Maybe I should leave the boat at home and put the Pajero on the beach What?? I didn't swear at anybody?? I said Pajero....

cheers scalem cant beat this time of year up the beach. it would be worth while heading up the beach for a change. there is something special and challenging about finding, catching and bringing in big fish in the surf.

Lovely stuff Drew - quality fish again.

Only arrived home this morning and was pleased to see that you did well. I'm assuming that you didn't give Gary or Cedric a look in with those whiting and tailor. Yes, I always found when I fished with baits that tailor flesh was best for big tailor on the northern migration.
Haven't read past pg 1 of the thread yet as pretty buggered from the trip but will later when the eyes and brain can handle it. Especially having to deal with Landy porn which is a little hard to cope with at the best of times.

go get em drew - a bit of repitive casting should work any remaining lactic acid from your muscles.

tss 4 and slider (the lure) caught milky whaler (or that's what we called em in my surfing days) fresh from the surf at straddie. You should've heard that drag sing ... the photos basically follow each other by an hour, the rod on the front of the landy with the tss4 is a wilson (prize from a straddie classic) and is perfectly suited to a tss4 and chrome work - just a joy to use.

    was released and swam away.

Ok, back in action and fully recovered.

Chris, that's the 2nd only shark that I'm aware of caught on a Slider - must have been great fun. The bronzy I caught, I didn't even cast the line - dangled it in front of his nose amongst a pack feeding in 18 inches of water on bait in the surf. As the wave went out he was left stranded -was a 10 second battle and he got to keep the slug. So have you found any tailor with the sliders yet? Received a msg from Scott a while back when he caught his first slider caught tailor but am wondering how you have gone.

Paul, you could well be right about the 125lb 49 strand being a bit heavy for tailor to bite through. Certainly hasn't happened yet anyway. In fact Drew I haven't had it happen with any wire that I've used with spinners or bait. This may be due to line poundage and tension with the heavier mono that you use. Not that the poundage is an issue with heavier gauge wire, but could be the reason. By the way have you thought of using lesser poundage main line with your 30lb tied to the end to prevent throw offs like I do when spinning? Would think that distance would be better again and sweep less of a problem.

Southerly has just started gusting up here and will hopefully create some gutters. The snot weed has now deposited on the beach and the surf is clean of any weed. Saw a few good bream, dart, whiting and flathead yesterday and believe that tailor were being caught on Sat night a few kms north of Teewah.
