A chance for young people to learn to fish
    15 September 2003
Young people in the Narrandera area have been urged to take part in a special fishing clinic to be held this Saturday, September 20, the Director-General of NSW Fisheries, Steve Dunn, said today.

Mr Dunn said the clinic would help youngsters brush up on their fishing skills and learn how to fish.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for children aged eight to 14 to practise casting, rigging, tying knots, and fishing.

“They’ll also learn about bag and size limits, aquatic habitats, threatened species and ethical fishing practices.

“With any luck, they might even catch a big one.”

Mr Dunn said fishing clinics were being held around the State as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to teach children about recreational fishing and conservation.

At Narrandera, they will have the opportunity to fish for perch.

“Each child will come away with fishing gear, including a rod and reel, and a NSW Fisheries T-shirt and cap,” Mr Dunn said.

The clinic will be held at the Narrandera Fisheries Centre, Buckingbong Rd, Narrandera, from 10am-3pm. The cost is $40 per child.

To secure a place, ring 02 6959 9021 before Friday.
