27 meg radio phase out??

I heard that the 27 meg radio is going to be phased out of marine use in time to come.
Can anyone tell me if that is right?? If it is, how long have we got before we have to change over?

Where's the bundy bear on this one?

Haven't seen anything that would suggest this but 27mHZ is a little past its use by date but still firmly entrenched in States like NSW.

With cost of VHF v 27mHZ these days eventually 27mHZ would probably gradually die a natural death anyway.

In some ways it would be a good thing and in other ways it might not. No 27mHZ would put a lot of weight on the VHF network and in some regards there's too many users who abuse the VHF system already.
