    Help to ID Fish

I was hoping someone might be able to confirm the ID of this fish, caught in depth of 100m off Caloundra. My closest guess from Grants Guide is a Specked Perch (Caprodon schlegeli) but according to Grants it only grows to 400mm and this one was 510mm.

Does anyone have other suggestions on the ID of this one?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Thanks Jeff,

Had a look at the one you suggested and the tail shape is the same as the one I caught, which seems to be the distinguising feature. If it is one of these then it appears that it is a very rare fish [smiley=speechless.gif]

mate their talking about this fishing being sooooooo rare that it is a trophy piece for museums.

if you haven't eaten it, you should. you would be one of a very few people to have done so.

and then from a scientific point of view you could always offer the bones the the local museum :-)
