Thread: Your thoughts on BCF

    Re: Your thoughts on BCF

    this has been interesting..
if you need to know about something & a young fella starts to talk crap with little knowlege of the product.. how do you know he know's nothing, if you also know nothing & had to ask in the first place? if he is talking crap & you know he is talking crap, why did you need to ask him anything in the beginning as you already knew the answer?
most of us have a fair idea of what we want & how it's used..you are on the best information site around each time you log on here.. ask what you need to know, you will get enough info to shop at BCF using only the checkout..

i have shopped 3 times & had no real probs. last time yesterday, (was working, time was short)went to Springwood, needed 2 items i had priced at bias, bias cost $198 need a few days to get it in.. BCF $150 & it's on the shelf, although i didn't find it. went to front, whoa, 5 staff, 1 customer,me being a bit blunt, not rude, on occasions (& in a hurry)stuck my head in middle of conversation & politely asked where it was & how much, saved $48.

i suppose the bottom line is that most of their custom will come from people who don't read ausfish & don't really care if they are served by a kid, & they probably know it..

As a business owner i work by two golden rules when it comes to customers.

RULE 1: #THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT

RULE 2: IF THE CUSTOMER IS WRONG SEE RULE NUMBER 1

Not a bad rule but a few draw backs, for example when the customer is wrong and therefore buys the wrong product for the job when all you had to do was suggest that they buy another product better suited. This is better because (A) the customer has a better fishing experience and (B) they don't come back and b!tch that you sold them the wrong product.

i understand most peoples opinions on the young staff thing. However, BCF have 3 specialists which cover the 3 sections, then usually 1 full time member which has his/her knowledge and then a casual for each section on top of that, obviously all 3 are not there at once. Just because you see a kid stacking lures....does not mean he is the backbone of the fishing dept. Some employees are purely recruited to stack shelves, its as simple as that, maybe instead of complaining all the time, why dont you ask the kid stacking shelves if you can have some assistance in fishing...and another thing, remember you are not the only customer in the store.

About time some people can see some light on the issue..... about time some people can actually see the world doesn't circle around them. Well said to some!!!

One thing, the polite customers who deserve to be right will prevail, but the rude ones can shop elsewhere. Anyone who tells me they follow a customer's every wish is a former business person......

If a customer does a business the favour of coming through the door the prudent business man will treat him like a king, like a god , like Elvis, like the tooth fairy etc etc , you can see where im going.
A business has two functions only

    1. to attract new customers

    2. to retain existing customers

the easier task is to retain the customer you have ( it costs a lot to gain a new customer)
It would pay anyone in retail to remember these truths.

The notion that you can afford to offend a customer is a danger to any business.
A disenfranchised customer will tell an average of 17 people of a bad experience.
I cannot now remember how many people a customer will tell of a posative experience but suffice to say it is considerably less people.

Also it takes a considerable effort to impress a person to the point that they will become an advocate, but bugger all, to give them the shits to the point that they will bag a business.
The majority of the preceding posts prove the point.

If you want to stay in business, bend over backwards to impress a customer from the moment they come through the door till the moment they leave even if it kills you .

That is your role if you are in retail , if you cant or wont then you are in the wrong job.

Answer: when you are asking where something is or whether they stock a particuilar item.

It's only a lie if you dont believe it

Customers are not always right - thats for sure and there is such a thing as bad business. 80/20 rule usually applies so look after your 20%.

I am a staunch Unionist, and BCF will only employ staff on AWA's, so they wont be seeing me in the front door anytime soon.....

so are you now going to tell us who you really are?

To Right - RACQ insurance screwed me over 12 years ago when my car was stolen from a secure car park on the Gold Coast.

I reckon I have talked more than 50 people out of using them since! I consider it my lifes mission!

An EBA is an union negotiated award - an AWA is when the boss tells you what you are gunna get (or lose usually), usually a lot worse than an award or EBA
