    Hooks for Sooty's and Barra

    Fly guru's.
Planning to make some flies for sooty's and barra.
What hook size /brands work best on a 11 wt/interm for the dam fish.

    George,

Best fly hook is the Gamakatsu SL12S.

    I'd use a 4/0 for barra.

    Hi george,
Same as Wes mate, SL12'S are the go. I use 6/0 on my big 3D flies for barra and jacks. I use these hooks in various sizes for 95% of all my flies.Their very strong and keep their sharp point time after time. Haven't straightend one yet !!!!

    G'Day George
Welcome to the dark side mate
I agree with Wes & Steve on SL12's, great hooks for a lot of patterns inc 3D's, Decievers, FPF's & some Candies, but if your tying Decievers with long soft hackles (great for slow presentations)then try using SIWASH hooks in 3/0 - 4/0 for Barra, they have a wide gape & you can tie the hackles back level with the barb, & with a little head cement in the right place you've got a relatively foul-proof fly (every cast's a winner)
For sooty's I'd use smaller hooks ,1/0-2/0 in shagshit brown .
    Cheers Chris
