Burdekin Dam Barra Fingerling Release

200,000 barra fingerling are to be released in the dam on #Saturday 6th December 2003. This will be our biggest release so far. Anyone wanting to take part in this activity can phone Scott on 0409478866.

Barra Release was a huge success. We had 3 inches of rain the night before which gave the system a flush. 200,000 barra over 68 different sites, with the furthest being 25km from the ramp. 14 boats and 30 people took part and some stayed over night. Unfortunately, the bigger barra are still pretty hard to find, although we did find some dead barra (850mm) and some really big yellow belly around 600 mark, that got caught in the runoff from the storm the night before. We had some of the Burdekin's best lure fishos there but they couldnt get one of the big fellas to even have a sniff. Although we have been stocking this lake now since 91, we haven't had big numbers released until recently with the SIPS dollars. Beautiful place though and will one day be a magic fishery. You could 100 boats on the lake and you wouldnt see another boat.
