    Golden perch 4 Somerset

    20 000 golden perch were released into Lake Somerset this week by SWFSA.

    Alot more to come before summer is over. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

    I'm sure they would have by now. Theres 70 odd separate stocking groups across Qld so we'll need to rely on them to get the info out there.

    It's pleasing to see these sorts of numbers going into our local lakes.

    Has any recent research been done regarding survival rates and growth rates of GP fingerlings at Somerset ?

    No surverys have been done there for some years. We dont have the money or manpower to do it & fisheries cant seem to find any money in their budget to do any research either.

    Creel surveys, catch cards & electrofish surveys can all help to make up a bit of an idea but short of emptying a lake & counting the fish numbers, species, sizes etc its just not possible to get any info with much accuracy.
    By utilising some best practice proceedures we can help keep survivability as high as possible.
