    Info on dam stocking

Hi all. I have a mate who lives up at lowmead near 1770 on a big property. There are several dams on it but one in particular that i want to stock with something. First of all, how do i know if the dam is suitable for fish life. There are plenty of healthy looking lillies, reeds and other types of water plants in and around it, there is plenty of insect activity around the above said plants. All in all the dam looks very healthy. It would be around 40m from one side to the other and depth not sure of yet, will send him in for a swim to check depth soon. What would it be best to stock it with, keeping in mind it gets bloody hot up there in the summer, and where would i get it from. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey JEWIENEWIE,

I've stocked my relatives dam with bass and yellowbelly however thats down here in SEQ. Take a look at this DPI webpage, it should have enough info to get you started.

    http://www2.dpi.qld.gov.au/fishweb/1261.html

Also take a look on http://www.aaq.com.au/members.htm . Towards the bottom of the page is a list of fish hatcheries, have a look there should be one than can facilitate your needs. If not, check in the yellow pages and look under aquaculture.

    Hope this helps ,

    Tim.

Mate depends on what foodsources are in there. If there are shrimp and yabbies, Bass, Yella's and even Barra.
If it is a bit varren of food sources, maybe one of the smaller perch species, but make sure they are legal there!
