Bow Mounted Electric Motors
Hi List,
I want to purchase a Bow Mounted Electric Motor with foot control. I would like to know what I should be getting for a Ally-Craft 4.25metre Shadow Mirage. Things like make, shaft length, foot controls, difference between Auto Pilot and just a standard foot control. I am a saltwater man, so should I be getting a salwater one or will a fresh do the job if I wash it after every use? Oh and the cheapest retailer in the Sydney area would be of great help:>))) etc etc etc
Thanks in advance

Re: Bow Mounted Electric Motors
I'm using a Rip Tide 55lb with Auto Pilot on my 455 Hornet. Good with 2 people. Has been faultless in the 3 or so years I've owned it.
Would look at the Motor Guide range also.

Hi Finnie,
I would say a Minn Kota 55 lb Riptide (saltwalter model) Auto-Pilot would be perfect for your rig.
The auto-pilot feature is unique to these motors & is great for keeping your nose into the wind, tide or current so that you aren't making constant adjustments all the time.
The maximizer in these is great, it gives a much better battery life than motors that don't have it built in.
Another great feature if the Minn Kotas is the extra long foot control cable that is standard. I've got a 5.2 meter Sea Jay with poling deck & can control the 65 lb Riptide while sitting up there spotting crusing fish or working birds.
I've been running Minn Kotas Riptides since they hit the market in Oz years ago & have never had a single problem with any of them.
I wouldn't reccomend getting any motor that isn't saltwater rated, as any warranty claims could be voided if a freshwater unit is taken into the salt.
Cheers,
Fitzy..
