Fishing the freshwater section of the East Alligator in Kakadu we came across Tarpon surface feeding. Much to our surprise most casts with lure or fly resulted in hookups on Archer fish. Little buggers beat the Tarpon to the artificals.

Fish in the photo measured 270mm and was taken on a Maree Spratt (red/black) lure. Rod a Shakespear Worchestershire SP1500, (which started life measuring 1.65m now only 1.52m due to 3 broken tips) reel Diawa 1500T Regal S. Line 6lb Fireline, 10lb mono leader.

When the Tarpon stopped feeding and went "down", we would run small Heddon Torpedos across surface. This would bring Tarpon back onto surface action when we would again use the flys.
