Whiting as Livebait? - Rules NSW?

    Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a bit of info on the rules and regulations of using whiting as livebait in NSW.

I keep hearing that whiting are a good livebait for flathead and Mulloway, but can't find anywhere whether it is legal to keep some smaller specimens for livebaiting in NSW. The legal size limit for Sand Whiting in NSW is 27cm, but can I keep some 15 cm specimens for use as livebait or am am breaking the rules?

The poddy-mullet rules are clearer...you are allowed up to 20 specimens under 15cm long for use as a livebait and so I might stick to them if I can't get any info on the legality of ising other species.

    Cheers,
    Finnie

    Hi

If you are using a fish for live bait it must be in acordance with the minimum size rules. It doesn't matter if you are going to use them for live bait, if they are under size you can not have them in your posession.

Thanks for that. Just got myself one of those plastic bait traps to try for some poddy mullet.......I like to keep it within the rules.

Any other words of advice on obtaining some live-baits?

    Cheers,
    Finnie
