Squire and sweetlip by the hundreds

My brother was fishing for whiting at Amity banks ( winter whiting would you believe) and was amazed by the number of small squire and sweetlip in the area.
Now that the trawlers cant net whiting in that area, there has been good numbers of whiting as well.
Makes you wonder what ever else feeds off these banks, that used to be thrown away as a by catch . These young fish make it look good for the future.

imagine in 2 years if here was NO netting in bay what BYCATCH would be around to become BAYCATCH.

The by-catch alone from Moreton Bay trawllers would be enough to feed a small community.

Must agree. Queensland has a huge coastline and this particular area (Moreton Bay) is exploited greatly.

Am I dumb, missing something up top ??? or something, but for years the bay has been wrecked by trawlers. Just go down to marinas and check the number of trawlers. >

WHATS WRONG WITH MAKING THEM TRAWL OUTSIDE MORETON BAY, AND NOT INSIDE IT.

    I WONDER >

I think they should get rid of a few more trawlers around the Bay as well

I remember when I caught Large mouth Nanygai just off Green Island about 14 years ago. They were thick there at certain times of the year

Trawler numbers in the Bay are about a third of what they were 5 years ago. Most were bought out a couple of years ago. Interestingly Vertico, there was more effort (trawl days)in the Bay 14 years ago than what there is now!
