looking for advice

I've done a fair bit of outside fishing but only ever on the bottom for reefies. im keen to start chasing kings, dollies, maybe small tuna. ive got a 5' 6" 10-15kg ugly stik boat rod with a 6" alvey side caster with 500m of 25lb schnider mono line. just after any tips & techniques on baits, rigs, tackle etc. that might help me, also will my rod reel and line be suitable.

Ive never heard of Alvey's being used for pelagics. Not to say it wont work though. But I think the retrieve speed will be wrong.

This will sound a bit suss but my mates mates catch a small marlin off the gc on an alvey on a ganged pilchard.

He did manage to land it then release.
