I asked the same question of a tackle rep the the other day. He said it depends on where you are fishing and what species you are targeting. If you are targeting OS fish like Shikari's sambos, you may better suited with a low ration around the 4:1. If you are likely to get smaller fish or fast palagics like tuna and macks, you may need a higher speed retrieve like a 6:1. If you can afford it get a two speed!

Don't know if this is accurate but seemed to make sense to me at the time.
