Can anyone point me in the direction of a free 'adult site protector' that I can download off the internet? Thanks

Sean I wouldn't recommend a free or paid version of anything like that. It would be a waste of money or time downloading it as it would be outdated before the download finished at the rate adult sites are built.

If it's to try and keep your kids away porn it won't work and even if it did there are a lot worse things than that on the net.

Basserman Net Nanny is just one, there are a heap of them, none are worth having. It's like an arms race, every time they block something they come up with a work around.

Sean/Basserman , a start (if really a problem?) would be to enable "content adviser" in your browser?

Tools, options, content , then "content advisor" click enable ,and adjust sliders to suit your preference

Possibly ,you will block more sites ,then you intended

If you suspect your kids are looking , you can also click on your "history" button and look at what sites have been visited? , and individually block them in trusted and non-trusted sites. ???

If you(s) are just worried about "pop-ups" download a handy toolbar
    http://toolbar.google.com/

p.s. ya gonna have to trust yours kids oneday!!

    Sean,

Nortons internet security isn’t bad. You’ll have to buy it though. It’s got a parental control function where you can set up an account for your kids (password protected) and you can specify the level of control they have on their browsing.

    Re: Firewall

The thing with most of the 'adult site protector' #programs is they use a file on your machine of all the "porn" sites (1000's of URL's). Netnanny and Nortons do this, now the file size means on some machines that the time taken to check the site before letting you in can be very noticable. And it also means the checking is only as good as the file on your machine, with over 10,000 sites going up on the web each day its hard to keep the file up to date.
Other programs use word association to block sites. But they can block you out harmless sites too. The word ##### would block you from pron sites, but also sites covering say prostate cancer.
