Seems to be working fine for me on Broadband.

What type of Internet connection do you have and who is it through?

What sort of page load times are you getting, 2 seconds, 3 seconds, etc?

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

When I dropped down to dialup speed last month it took 30 secs to go from one page to the next.
Now that we upgraded to 6 gig that will never happen again.
    We are with Optus.

Does this always happen or only sometimes?

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

About 30 seconds per page with dialup would be about average.

Should take about 2 to 4 seconds with broadband, depending on what is on the page, how many replies, etc.

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

Will it depend on how many people are on Ausfish at the time?

I am with Telstra (I think), broadband. I will live though, just wondering if there was something going on that may have been slowing the pages down.

Usually the pages take 2-4 secs. However sometimes they wont load at all.

I believe we have fixed the can't find server problem, see http://www.ausfish.com.au/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1159270477

Have also done a few other changes in the last few days. Let me know if you have any problems.

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

178 seconds to load this page. I know I shouldn't expect much being in the bush on dialup, but this site is THE WORST site I ever visit, by a huge margin. The ads, avatars and all the smileys make for a woeful load time, and quite frankly must cost this site an enormous number of repeat visitors. If you want to see a site that is dialup friendly go visit the Whirlpool.net.au forums, that site loads a page for me in 3 seconds flat.

Might be an ISP/Reverse DNS issue. What ISP are you with?

Just did a check via a third party site siteuptime.com and get the following

Have also submitted a reverse DNS request. If your ISP requires it it will be fixed by this submission.

    =======================================
    Request complete and verified:

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

My isp is TSN... and before you say it, yes as a reseller of theirs for 5 yrs or so I am well aware of the limitations of their "service". However since this is the only site I have this trouble with (yes even the Daily Telegraphs new site isn't as slow as here) I'm not sure that the isp i use has anything to do with the load times of this site.
I clicked the links you provided... fat lot of good that did me.. I remain a mushroom.

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

For those who continue to be plagued by woeful load times on this and certain other sites I have found a working solution. Download and install Opera as your browser. (I've been using it for years and only recently learnt of this wonderful feature). Right click on the page you wish to load faster. This will bring up a "Block Content" toolbar. Click on all the ads and images you no longer wish to load each time you visit a site. My load time has gone from a consistent 170 odd seconds to 50 seconds flat. Yes, a whole TWO minutes of my day saved each and every time I click to go to another page.
I have seen the light brother.

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

Can you do a traceroute to see where the delay is?

Just go to a dos promp (comand promt) and type in - traceroute ausfish.com.au

Or you can download a free trial of visual traceroute at - http://www.visualroute.com/

If you could do a trace and paste a copy here it will help me see where your delay is.
Sounds like you are getting it on a few sites so sounds more like an ISP problem but either way I would like to help you resolve it.

Have you contacte your ISP to see if they can shed any light on it?

Have atached a snap of the table of a trace I just did.

The cmd is tracert for anyone who tried traceroute and discovered it's not a valid cmd.
The image you provided a link to returns me a blank page Steve, not sure if it's a dodgy link or my end.

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

As I said early this month, this site is by far the slowest of the sites I regularly visit. News.com.au is also pretty ordinary, but not quite as bad.
If you knew my isp, you'd understand the futility of 1 ringing them and expecting a call back, and 2 getting anywhere near someone there who is capable of doing anything more than reading from a flow chart. ie - "reboot your computer" , "reinstall your operating system" , and my personal favourite, "it's all evil telstras fault".
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to look into this for me.
    Cheers.

    Re: OMG Ausfish so slow...

You obviously don't like your ISP but would strongly suggest to push them as hard as you can to get them to fix the problem.

Attached is a traceroute of news.com.au for you to compare with yours.
