Thread: 6.2m Kevlacat. mk1 and mk2 hulls.

    6.2m Kevlacat. mk1 and mk2 hulls.

I’m the new owner of a 6.2m Kevlacat. One of the quite rare Centre Console versions. It’s the Mk2 hull with DF140 Suzukis.

I’ve noticed there’s quite a big difference to the running surface between the Mk1 version and the Mk2 version. Mk1 seems to have that tapered plank bottom similar to the 5.2KC and has no wave breaker. The Mk2 has the wave breaker and a sharp dead rise that’s maintained almost all the way forward with only a 50mm wide “keel”.

has anyone been in both models and can tell me how different they ride? I’d expect looking at the two, the Mk1 to be a faster hull with the same power but the Mk2 to be a slightly better ride?

Had her out for two quick trips. No fish pics. The ride is unbelievable. I thought the old 5.2kc had a good ride but this is next level. She’s a bit rough around the edges and some TLC including a wet sand should bring her back to life. A name change is on the cards too.

As far as I’m aware only two were built. And I think both were to survey standards at the time. I’ve seen a few Wet Pussy’s about but considering she’s one of two. I’m thinking “Rare Pussy” would be the perfect name for it.

That looks like a nice boat

certainly haven;t seen many Cats in CC configuration ..... maybe a handfull

it will certainly be great to fish out of - i'm guessing she will fly with those DF140s
....... all the best with her (whatever pussy she becomes) ......& hopefully she's a fishy boat for you .

    Chris
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

Haven’t really been able to stretch her legs yet with trim etc as the first two trips were a little choppy but have seen 80km/hr on the GPS.

    congrats!
good mate of mine was the previous owner.
Ive been out in that boat a fair bit. absolute weapon in the rough. wont find a better rough water boat. Due to sitting back further and no cabin it floats across the chop nicely. Dont be scared to drive it fast. people often praise how good the 5.2KC is. its a shit boat compared to the 6.2 with decent power.
I know he maintained the motors religiously to.

Bump to this thread. I’m a bit worried about our ol mate Noelm. Haven’t heard from him in a bit. Thought I’d get his thoughts on the different rides/models as he’s been in most of them.

I still get on to read PMs and such, got way too over the shit fights over trivial things. Back on track, I am not too sure what real differences there is between the models, probably the wave breaker was the most noticeable. They all went OK, the newer ones were much better finished.
