    new game tackle advice

    Hi folks,
Got a new Surtees arriving in a few months so we can go more offshore
My daughter and I would like to try some game fishing.
I have a couple of biggish? game reels (Shimano Tekota 700 and a 18000 Stella) and was wondering what line to use on them, also what knots to leader and what leader?
    I have absolutely no idea.
    Thanks folks

ps. they currently have 100lb braid FG'd onto 160lb leader

Nice part of the world & some great fishing down that way .

First thing is - find a buddy who is an experienced game fishoe or join a club .

Game fishing - particularly marlin & sharks needs to be taken quite seriously ..... otherwise you could put yourself & daughter in danger .

So many questions that need answering - eg do you plan to live bait or troll lures ?

Setting up for game fishing is much more than rod , reel & line (Harness & belt / gaffs / tail ropes ..... & as you will find out is a rather expensive hobby .

    Learning your knots - rigs

This is really the domain of overhead reels & rods ..... so you'll need to work out your line class 24kg being probably ideal for the south coast Marlin / Tuna

There is so much to it (daunting) .... so back to what I first said - join a club & find a buddy.

    Chris
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!
