    Mission beach Birthday Overnighter

I knew it was going to be a good trip on my 53rd birthday when Ann hooked up to a mack tuna within 30 seconds of dropping a lure over into a bait school on the way out to the reef.....fresh slab bait ticked off and then we hit the reef and caught the usual suspects and saw some nice coral...

Watched some lightning from the first storm of the season...It showered on and off through the night which sounded nice all snuggled up in the bunk...

I usually plan for a few days at Hinchinbrook for my Birthday to catch a Barra or 2 before the season closes but the missus isnt a fan of Midgies so we compromised and hit the reef instead..

So I cant complain about a few tasty fish for the freezer and a bit of fun catching them.

Very nice. Were they on a line or spearing?
I'd love to get over the side one day... but every time I finally go to do it, something happens and I don't

Nice birthday trip ...... great photos too

    Chris
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

Corry, the missus loves to snorkel and scuba dive but I havent done any spearing since our boy left home a couple of years ago..
Not sure how much spearing you have done up this way but a couple of things we learnt was to always use the "one up -one down rule"...we also put a slack second anchor down just in case..and if everyone is in the water, just be careful of tides and current...you can get a hell of a current running along a reef edge after a change of a big tide with some wind on top pushing it even faster and if you find yourselves struggling to make it back to the boat against a strong current it could end badly if everyone is swept away 50-60 km's from land....

and, man, post up some pics and reports of your own adventures up here..love to see them and it might give us some idea's of some new places to explore..
