Can't transmit on GME VHF GX800 Marine Radio

Ummmm, hate to admit it but after installing a new antennae for the above, I've got no transmission on either a new mike I also bought or the old one!

Checked all the usual connections and pretty idiot proof but just no way I can get any TX! Reception is fine in all respects!

The IN socket for the mike is nice and clean so I'm wondering if somehow I've put a "lock" on the radio/mike as you can do with the KEY LOCK?

Normally you get a "TX" icon that pops up on the radio screen when you press transmit button on the mike but totally blank!

Can't find anything on the internet about the actual mike operation itself!

Feel a bit of an idiot on this as I have been using 27 & VHF for yonks! Must be missing something?

    Many thanks

Did you buy the right antennae? Only asking because I very nearly picked up a am/fm by mistake.

Just to confirm, it's the gx800 handheld - is that correct?

Oooooops! My bad guys, the 800 is handheld, mine is a 400 model but ........I found the problem!

This unit has a rear microphone plug as well as a front and it the back one worked fine so I'm guessing there is some debris or corrosion in the front socket.

I'll try to clean it out a bit but it's working so that's the main thing!

    Thanks for the replies!
