I've had to wear various ones for work - none of which I would be happy to wear for extended periods while fishing. If I was ever forced to look at this I would be thinking a waist belt type inflatible - even if the bumbag is now out of fashion.
My old jackets are now four years old and almost the same price to buy new ones then get them serviced
Well not quite as it’s $35 per jacket v $79 on special
Are any brands more comfortable for a days fishing casting lures standing up
I’ve just got generic dealer jackets from the last new boat pretty’s ute they are marlin ones screen printed
cost is not a issue as will buy two more comfortable ones and three other whatever’s if the whole family comes for a day trip etc

Haha Scot those bumbag life jackets look hidious what u can do tho just roll up a life jacket and velcro it to your upper leg that way you're not wearing it uncomfortably unless you are wearing it incase you fall overboard unconcous

Crewfit 180n pro. Forget I'm wearing it. Fishing for 8 hours and it's great. Most comfy I have used. Cheers

All the inflatable ones are comfortable as long as they are adjusted to fit properly.
I fish on my own a bit in fast flowing snag riddled current so the bum bag wouldn't really work
ill have a look at the crewfit ones thanks
and noelm ill disagree there, they are not all manufactured the same seems the more expensive ones have less bulk around the neck
I had to replace mine as they no longer met the standards. So I tested the old ones, inflated quickly, took a knife to them and I was surprised at how easily they were puncture and of course how quickly deflated.
For me they are not something I would rely on in an emergency situation, I keep the flotation type very handy to grab in an emergency as a tear whilst going overboard or from flotsam will leave you jacketless.
I have a couple of Crewfit 165 inflatable vests for the wife and myself and they are also quite comfortable, wear them all the time when on the boat, forget that I am even wearing it most times. I also have a couple of the permanent type on board as well for guests but those you can't forget that you are wearing them.

Dignity I completely agree. I have the good foam ones and a big yellow esky also...i don't like how easily they puncture. But I wouldn't wear a full size foam one (even relatively comfy ones like Panes Wessex do) when I lure fish. So for me auto inflators are the go.

Agreed, I just wear my inflatable, Marlin brand (they do have a variety) one that I find isn't an issue to wear, often used to cross the bar and take it off but with the new one I've forgotten the last coupe of times so it must be better. Still want the other one handy, I imagine if you were close to shore and there were rocks around the inflatable one wouldn't last long and at that stage you're tired/exhausted. Reminds me of the 2 times we got caught in a storm on succeeding trips, neither was forecast and built up quite quickly, we each had our foam jackets on, a long rope between us on a carabini each end, a torch, bag of flares and the epirb and spare life all thread onto the rope and spare life jackets attached to ourselves. We actually ended up sleeping in the end but don't want to do it again.
Just edited my post above to make sense. I used to wear the Pains Wessex in the bar, and they were comfy, but too bulky for fishing,.especially lure flicking.

Are there any quality jackets like the Crewfit that allow self servicing these days? I don’t mind paying for quality but it drives me up the wall having to pay to have them serviced every three years when it can easily be done yourself.
Democracy: Simply a system that allows the 51% to steal from the other 49%.
Yep mate, can service Crewfit yourself. Has instructions online. Easy as. I have done it a few times.

Super easy to service, just make sure you keep a record with the LJ. Digital kitchen scales are pretty good for weighing the gas cylinders. Any rust on the cylinders and they're gonski. I usually spray my cylinders when first purchased with lanolin. The first lot I did were still fine 12 years later.
