    Moreton Bay Fish ID please

    Hi all,

Was fishing off my tinnie in Moreton Bay yesterday, a few hundred metres off Cleveland point, had a bait jig over the side and landed 2 of these fish (double hook up), kept this fella and threw back the smaller one. I have checked books/online and have been unable to ID it - please help! Thanks in advance.

What if it was not of legal size or a protected species?!

Risky business keeping a fish that you are unable to identify...

It is indeed a blackall, slate bream, mother in law etc they are ok eating if bled/iced, filleted, skinned and eaten fresh..

Watto pretty sure old mate said he checked online if it had any protection and couldnt fond anything which usually means not protected, no size limit and no bag limit

Just because not protected doesn't mean it does not have a size and bag limit?!

For us in NSW if its not on the department of fisheries web site there is no bag limit no protection and no size limit, i'd assume QLD is similar

It is on the website but I guess if you don’t know the name of it you don’t know what you are looking for, if in doubt let it go.

IDFISH is a great app for identification, throw in all the distinguishable features and it pops out suggestions which are usually bang on!
