Thread: Marine radio requirments

    Marine radio requirments

I always believed they were required for anything other than protected waters.

Can any one confirm current rules as they no longer seem to be listed as a requirement.

Just got a 4.75 side console and trying to confirm.

I just read/checked both NSW and Vic boating handbooks, the requirement is the same : a VHF radio is required if more than 2 nautical miles from the coast.
    Hope that helps ?

Never has been a legal requirement in Qld to my knowledge.
Note to self: Don't argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience....

Just keep in mind if you use the Tweed, NSW rules apply, and it IS a requirement if more than 2 nautical miles offshore.
