    Motorguide Xi5 query

I weighing up if I need one, I know I’d like one but I’m researching what I need for a setup.
Does the Xi5 stand alone have facility to perform spot lock/anchor lock ?
Or does it need the pinpoint kit to do that function ?
I’ve got a Simrad evo2 with a nmea2000 networked to the Mercury outboard.
So I see I can network the Xi5 and have it linked to the Simrad and then the Xi5 could lock onto any waypoint.
The research I’ve found on forums is not clear to me if the Xi5 straight out of the box does the anchor lock or if it needs to get its gps reference from the pinpoint kit and a MFD ?

I think mine is just an Xi5. It has its own GPS and spot locks without being connected to a plotter.

Thanks CT, so you never bought the "Optional" Pinpoint kit ?
Maybe this Pinpoint kit is some sort of secondary interface for a network ? Like an NMEA2000 network.

I thought the "pinpoint" was the gps functions.
I believe xi5's are aroud $1500 and xi5 pinpoints are around $2200 for 55lb 54", more $ for larger models.

Thanks Ben, yes so it seems some models have GPS built in and some don’t ? Maybe older models don’t ?
The model I’m looking for would be 24 volt, 72” shaft, 80lb thrust, with gps/pinpoint.
From what I’ve been able to find online I’m looking closer to around $2900 depending if I need this pinpoint kit which is about $400ish.

Is the pinpoint kit like the separate heading sensor that Minn Kota has ?

    Motorguide Xi5 query

So I asked the same question over at THT and basically (what I didn’t know before)

There are some Xi5 models (maybe older ones ?) that don’t have built in GPS.
So you can option up these other model Xi5 with a “Pinpoint Kit” to give them the GPS functionality.

So now I’ll make sure I investigate the model with inbuilt GPS.
There are a couple of reviews that state overall the Xi5 is a great product however using the tracking feature (hooked into a Lowrance MFD) is “clumsy”.

Anyway so now I’ve just got to chase the best price and wait for the tax refund I mean fishing fund.

    Re: Motorguide Xi5 query

    Look at my motorguide thread
    The motor is $2450
Gateway connect to Lowrance is $400
Imo the gateway is a great feature for getting your spot right

Thanks Trevelly, I did see your install. Good work bloke.
What do you think of the quick disconnect option, is it any use ?
I'm thinking I'll just bolt it down, I won't need to remove it unless it's broke.

They said it's useful for when you do upgrades to software
For me it was an easy decision as I park on the driveway so I can get it off and into the garage and it makes it easy to clean
I thought the bolts at 6mm were too small and the base really only seemed secure once it was Sikaflexed in place
