I have a Lowrance HDS 7 GEN 3 and want to purchase a transducer with side scan capability what do I need does anyone have one.

all yo need is the LSS 2 transducer mate about $250 - whitworths or ch smith - the gen 3 run ss no prob well mine does (even thou i actually run SS on my gen 2 T ) and link it to my gen 3 by Ethernet - you dont need the separate SS HD module

It's the "total scan" transducer that you need.

got a mate who uses the totalscan transducer - i prefer the LSS 2 SS images that i get - but hey either will give you SS and DS on a gen 3 - the very best SS images though definitely do come from using the 3 D SS system

Couldn't agree more …… but it is an extra $1000

I'm about to swap my total scan with the 3D that I've pulled out of my other boat .
