Re: Aluminium Trailer Build Tandem Axle (On a budget)

Got my calipers on guys but seems theres a difference between all the different brand tyres

The right braked wheel caliper has 5mm clearance pre hydraulic fluid

The left side has 10mm clearance or more

I guess i need to finish off making the brake hoses and see how she comes out

I think im going to have to make 2 Y runs of the brake hose and T it just behind the hitch

Re: Aluminium Trailer Build Tandem Axle (On a budget)

That was really tough work, got my two calipers bolted on got all my hoses laid out i ran two seperate hoses from the front to calipers i have aT up the front left just 1 meter short of the tow hitch i'll run 1 meter of soft hose that extra bit

Had lotsof problems with the brass fittings threading and the T piece, had problems with the double flange tool that was rubbish all the above rubbish from ebay, half way thru the double flairing tool went wonkey and started bulging the flare to one side i think 8 had to cut and redo 3 or 4 flares had to chuck away 1 screw

But in the end i won i hope no leaks, if the mechanic says no hoses under the frame i'll have to get longer hoses and go over the top of the frame

No work on the boat today too buggered from the sun

Getting the drawbar/winch post base sorted just grabbed a small length of 100x100x5mm gal going to bolt and U bolt it down

My wrong winch post order was corrected took 6 weeks to get it fixed i now have a 100x100mm winch bracket and a 100x100mm winch post with a 100x100x5mm base drawbar

I may leave the base drawbar that length and add another cross member behind it donno yet

All i need to do is drill and bolt the whole winch assembly together, add bunks add lights, add 1 brake hose fill with brake fluid and shes ready for registration after alick of paint

I’m pretty sure he’s painting the steel bits instead of galvanising.

Haha yeah something like that... had a quick look after the move, i had abunch of 100mm and 75mm U bolts i can only find one box not sure what happen to the other box

I'll likely get back into the trailer in the next few days

Received a strange happy birthday card in the mail today by the local politicion for my 40th...

Found 2x 100mm U bolts thought i ordered more.. will start the crappy job of drilling steel tomorrow, i also have a bunch of 75mm U bolts so i just need to sand my 10mm angle steel and paint those they are for the bunk mounts i already drilled those a year ago

Still unsure if to use marine carpet on the bunks that stuff is unreally expensive 25 bucks a square meter struth..

Still need another 4x 100mm U bolts for the winch bracket and winch post..

My brake hose should be here soon so i will be able to test my brakes

Wont be long now untill she goes for rego

Re: Aluminium Trailer Build Tandem Axle (On a budget)

Marine carpet is about that a lineal metre, that is about 2m wide, not per square metre

Re: Aluminium Trailer Build Tandem Axle (On a budget)

Yeah its $50-$70 1x2 meters Noel so minimum $25 per square meter

I may grab the bunks today but in a blahh mood its hot outside crap day to be drilling over head

Re: Aluminium Trailer Build Tandem Axle (On a budget)

I measured my cross members and they are 2500mm between the 3 main ones so not sure how im going to make 2x1m of carpet fit

Here are a couple 200x50 3m sleepers i will cut them back to around 2650mm

Re: Aluminium Trailer Build Tandem Axle (On a budget)

I probably would have used 190X45 quality treated pine rather than sleepers, sleepers tend to twist and warp because they are made out of really rubbish timber. A reputable timber yard would have nice straight grained treated pine that will stay straight when bolted down, sleepers will be OK. Can you find any of that rubber strip stuff that was used years ago, it was about 50mm wide and had ridges on it, you used to buy it by the metre, but haven't seen it for years now, what about plastic strip on the top, the red stuff is easy to get in boat shops

You're setting yourself up for a big disappointment the first time you try & launch the boat Gazza, will you invite me to the first launch so I can say I told you so.
