Lowrance Totalscan transducer

My new chart plotter comes with a transom mount total scan transducer. I'd prefer to mount it in a wet box and shoot through the hull as it's a moored boat, I'm really only interested in depth, and don't want to drill any more holes than I have to. From what I've read the structure scan wont work through the hull but will I get a depth reading if I mount it in a wet box?

yeah the traditional elements will work alright. "usual stuff though, thickness and type of hull material etc"

thanks, as long as I get an accurate depth out of it I'll be happy - current sounder shoots through ok so was going to mount on opposite side of boat
