    Road report, Stanage bay

    Hello All,
Just returned from a trip to Stanage.
Road is a shocker, very corrugated.
Mudguards fell off after 10 kms, lost the number plate on the way out.
The side rollers collapsed, brackets do not have enough grip.
To be fair 200kms on this road = 30 years to the local boat ramp.

Lowering tyre pressure and travelling at 40kph helped.

Otherwise, great weather and even caught some fish.

Never been to Stanage but have thought about it several times ..... then a report like yours sobers me up . I personally know 2 people that have destroyed their trailers on that road ...... it just can’t be worth it and there would be many other places that would offer comparable fishing or access to .
So how was the fishing ?

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

The road had never been better, just keep the trailer maintenance up and its an easy drive. Its a special place and well worth the effort

That road can change one day to the next..

It takes it's toll on everything even when it is at it's best which is never great, especially first timers or the unsuspecting as Croc found out..

Special part of the coast though and like SV said certainly worth the hassle and effort!

Just went up there last week. Towed a 3.5T van. Roads are not bad at all. Need to drive to conditions of course, and as mentioned, your gear should be fit for purpose...

Chris, the road to stanage is not a hard drive, idiots break their trailers on that road because they are impatient or have not prepped for the drive correctly. I have done the run 13 times with only one flat tyre where a sidewall got slashed by a gibber.

i guess if you drive a 20km/hr - you probably wont break anything ....... but then it turns it into a 5hr trip .

that said - a mate with a well prepared trailer still broke it .......

maybe with a duel axle trailer the stresses would be less

You’ll be better off running at 50km/hr
