    Catching Squid

Hi everyone, Just wondering what size rod/reel and line to use for Squid. I will be going on a charter to Swains Reef shortly, I will be fishing for Squid at the back of the boat probably at night and as I've never fished for Squid before I don't know the technique for them . Do you cast or just jig for them and do you wait till they release the ink so as not to upset the Skipper.??

    Catching Squid

I just use a little $150 Shimano sienna 2500 soft plastic combo, most important thing is to have a smooth drag and for the price are a good little reel, have caught the big tiger squid here with it while fishing at night, I usually just have it rigged ready to go and the hard top flood lights brings them to the surface and I just cast towards them and slow retrieve then pause and let them take a bit of line then give it a gentle jerk to try and set the barbs, they are good fun to catch, the other night I caught a little arrow squid and as pulling it in this monster tiger came in and smashed it
