Hi All
Heading to Hervey Bay in mid August. Can anyone suggest some decent fishing locations, and also places or conditions to avoid?
Cheers
Yep. 5.2m.
Plenty of options with a boat that size you can catch whiting and pelagics as well as reef fish not far from the harbour or you can run up Fraser island if the weather is good.
Thanks. Is the bay anything like Moreton in that there are a few wicked sandbars to avoid? Or is it pretty deep all over?
And yes, whipping out near Fraser is appealing.
local information is always the best, i would go have a chat to the rescue group and suss out any boat hazards that may be about, as for fishing spots well its all pot luck isnt it. and a good fish finder helps.
Also, go to the local tackleworld and grab the local fishing book for Hervey Bay with the GPS spots. Look for tuna busting up. I found a lot of the schools right up the top of the Island.

I found this list useful as a start to get some marks in your GPS.

I'd definitely drop into the local Tackle World for a chat - found them very friendly and informative.
The tide moves pretty quick past Urangan, the bay is like a big bowl funneling through there. Some sand islands between Urangan and Fraser but all well marked and my Navionics seemed accurate.
Have a great trip!
Hi Jason
We're heading up on the 21st August but will only have a couple of days fishing.
Cheers
Hi tree frog I will probably be back at work then but if you ask Fishos Tackle world they will let you know what has been happening
If you are prepared to do the miles 25 Fathom has been pretty good on dawn the last couple of trips home and also there are a heap of Trevally at the Southern Gutters for a bit of jigging action and sore arms

Its all about picking the weather up there. The Arti reef is good for bottom bashing and a short run from Urangan in good weather. If the wind is up, try River Heads as the Mary and Susan Rivers are sheltered, so is Pt Vernon area. Tackleworld are good for advice.
Fishing- It's only an addiction if you're trying to quit.
