VHF arial refix can it be done?

Hello all

Im sure we"ve all had this problem.

I have one of those pivot stand up antenna and where the coax cable enters the side of the pivot section at the base

(and because of the constant up and down pivot each time I put the boat in)

it has worn through the protective white plastic coating

and now it's through the Braided wire (shield)

Can this arial base be opened up and reconnected or are they a through away job ?

if so

has any one got an arial or know of a brand of arial that doesn't load the coax cable up ever time the base pivots?.

Ie the cable come up through the centre of the base not the side?

sounds like a chuck away job , have you checked whitworths marine and leisure, they do a nice little GME vhf arial.

Grab a new one. Many and varied maufacturers. Just have a hunt until you find one you are happy with. GME, ZCG Scalar and Glomex are brands to look at for starters
