Looking at one of the threads on THT I came across a post talking about Sea Chests in boats. It got me researching them and thinking as these pressurised live bait tanks seem to be the ducks nuts. The theory being that having a live bait tank chock a block all the time with large volumes of water is the best way to keep lives longer. That I know to be true and I like to keep my pumps running as often as possible with my livies. Aerators etc are all useless. The other advantage of the pressurised live bait well is the lives don't get thrown around when on the move.
That's where the Sea Chests comes into its own. For those like me that weren't in the know, a sea chest is a sealed box that sits below the waterline in your boat that has an open intake thru-hull connected either directly or through a pipe to the bottom of the boat and often with a flange that allows water in when underway. Once at rest because it's below the water line it floods naturally. From there you either submerse large bilge pumps inside the box or run fittings to the side of the box with pumps externally to your live wells and deck wash etc. You never have to bother with priming pump lines and you always have water available at rest or on the move.

Yes, I've seen them. they were called a livewell and were fitted on every old displacement hulled-fishing vessel. Just a section of hull bulkheaded off from the rest of the boat, with holes through the bottom. Worked a treat on the slow boatsWould obviously take a bit more to make it work on a fast planing hull.
Only way to go. All the scales and urea falls out. Ryan moody has a video on making one (bait tank). And talks about angles of the holes to drill. You don't even need pumps water flow does it
Ok just realised you are talking about a sea chest like an engine sea chest. (I couldn't watch yr video)Sorry.. It's just a way of having one hull penetration instead of many. I prefer the bait tank open to the bottom of the boat
