    3D Structure Scan

Does anyone have any real world feed back on The clarity of lowrance 3D structure scan in say 20-60m of water offshore? Have googled it and searched on here and doesn’t seem to be much info on this. Thanks rob

    Re: 3D Structure Scan

Howdy. We have used SS3D on two of our boats over the past 2 years or so in the heads of Port Phillip bay... which sits between 20-45mt. havnt been any deeper than 45 with ss3d. we found it struggled somewhat without a few tweaks
its........not bad.......not great. To be truthful, the extra detail boost the standard side and down scan sonar receives in two dimensions would benefit you more than the 3d perspective.

mmmmmm, which 3d is leading the race at the moment? things like resolution, depth/power, max boat speed for viewable/usefull viewing and stability through some ocean slop. I and many others are all ears on these things moose.

    Re: 3D Structure Scan

the best for stability is the Real Vision 3d from Raymarine owing to the fact it has a Rate gyro built into it to help compensate for pitch and roll.. This is also in the new DFF3D from furuno.

    Re: 3D Structure Scan

Anything that isn't rate sensor stabilized is going to suffer with motion induced picture degradation and thus be less than perfect on any day there is any swell offshore - the worse the the swell is the worse the picture will be. The Navico systems have typically been commented to run out of steam at about the 40 metre mark max. Garmin is better - don't think at this stage they have rate sensor input though (had heard they were working on it) and as mentioned Raymarine and Furuno already have rate sensors. Haven't played with the Raymarine but have seen a bit of the Furuno. It's not like the extreme hi res images from Navico/Garmin in the shallow water but is more like the commercial 3D systems from WASSP.

Thanks moose for your time yesterday. Going to install and judge first hand.

    Re: 3D Structure Scan

I often use Structurescan when sounding around, but rarely use the 3d option.

I find better clarity with it on 2d
