Thread: Car Topper

    Car Topper

Daughters partner is after a second hand car topper with 6 hp for my grandson. He tested one today that was about 10.5 ft with a 6hp four stroke. Daughters partner is about 100 kilo and couldn’t get the boat on the plane. Which makes him wonder if the motor might be stuffed. I have no experience with small motors.

So my question is to those who have some experience with the smaller motors. Would you expect a 6hp four stroke to get a 10.5 ft tinny onto the plane with a 100 kilo bloke on the tiller.

Possible to plane, but 6HP is not much power.

As a 60kg nipper I'd run up the front, get it on the plane, and back to the tiller with a 5

It would be border line. A 6hp two stroke used to just get mine up with a couple of 75kg teens on board. As mentioned, weight distribution may be the key - might need a tiller extension.

Thanks guys. It will get used by a 12 yr old so weight shouldn’t be a problem. Sounds like it might have worked as expected then.

6 hp needs a license. 12 yo can drive a 4 hp in qld?

In qld 6hp and under = no license required.
4hp and under = no rego required.
