Yamaha F70 LA resetting the maintenance interval

We have just completed our first 20 hour service of the motor. (Engine Oil change and Gear Oil.)
No problem to do, having Yamaha engine before.
The new F70 (great motor) Tachometer manual says the Total hours should be reset for the service maintenance intervals.
Would anyone be able to tell me how to reset the meter, please.

I reset the hours used for each time we use the boat and keep a log along with the fuel economy and distance etc. Great information.
    1. Can I reset the service meter and how is this done?
    2. What's your thoughts on resetting the Hours ? it might be a good idea to allow the meter to continually record the hours.
And keep a log, which I do anyway.
I'm a bit confused what to do, appreciate your thoughts, thanks.

I think what it's referring to is to reset the service reminder, not to set the actual hours back to zero (if that's even possible) most motors have the instructions in the owners manual, and often involve a sequence of key on, off and so on.

    Thanks Noelm,
I find the manuals a little conflicting and confusing regarding 'resetting maintenance intervals'.
More I think about it, more it makes sense that I cannot be reset.
I'll keep my logs going for servicing.
    Thanks for your help.

It is probably programmed in that the first service is at 20 hrs. Thus, you will just be resetting the hrs to next service, so to speak. if you reset this now, later on, you will be getting a warning every time you start the motor once you have gone 100 hrs, if that is the interval. Really easy to do, look at this youtube video

Thank You for the YouTube link. The gauge detail on the link are different to mine. Mine is 6Y8 gauges.
I think they are showing the resetting of the Trip Hours and not the actual Total Engine Hours.
It makes sense never to reset this the actual hours as this is like the Odometer on a Vehicle.
I'll have a study of the information to see if it relates in some way to my gauges.
And I also see some more info on YouTube from this link about the information on the gauges.
There is so much information available now, with all the new electronics - I also use the Garmin DV4.
I spend more time playing and learning than actually fishing.
    Many thanks

Pretty sure it will be impossible to reset the engine operating hours without some specialised software, and even then it would not normally be done, even by a dealer.

I have a comment why dont you get it serviced by a Yamaha dealer and keep your warranty up to date as if you dont and there is an issue you will have a problem

Hi Rodney, Sorry I've been slack looking up Ausfish and replying to your comment above.
My husband prefers to do his own servicing, the instruction/service manual advises 'if you are capable and experienced at servicing - the black dotted service requirements can be done yourself"
My husband has a lot of guts and puts me to a lot of trouble before he starts a jobs, he is well prepared with right tools and equipment on hand,
and the other theory of having guts is that you can afford to replace or pay for a stuff up.
But over all the years we've been married and ALL the servicing of everything in his life, with my back up support, he's been incredibly successful with everything he touches. Albeit... saved heaps of money & time dealing with other people and when we get to the boat ramp, the trusty yammy starts first kick. Love that motor.
    Many thanks for your comments.

i use a yamaha dealer, F70, and i go by the hour meter for services, as i dont do 100 hours/year, i extend the service out to 15plus months when i have around 80 or so hours up
doing self servicing like yourself, you could still keep track of hours by writing in the service book how many hours on meter/date

Pretty sure you would need the software and cable to reset the service maintenance, basically telling the computer the service has been done. You can't reset the total hours registered on the ecm, unless it's replaced. That's my understanding anyway.
